Tottenham Hotspur-Chelsea Preview

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel expects his side to "deliver a top performance" at home to Tottenham on Sunday.

The Blues cruised through an EFL Cup double-header against Antonio Conte's side earlier in January and are set for a third clash in a short space of time at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel's side were well-beaten by runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City 1-0 last game before a 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, and the German implored for a response against their London rivals.

"We play now three matches in such a short time which is pretty unusual, uncommon normally," he said. "That's why I think they know what we do, and we know more or less what they do. It's again for us to show up in games like this. They come from a late victory, that gives them a boost. We come from two wins in the cup.

"We play the match – it's not about having advantages and being philosophical about it. It's about delivering, being in the right mood and attitude to deliver a top performance."

Spurs sit in fifth, just one point off fourth-placed West Ham with three games in hand, after a dramatic 3-2 win at Leicester City last Wednesday.

Conte, though, hinted at the need for January investment.

"Honestly, I prefer to speak about this topic always with the club," said Conte. "For sure, I made an evaluation about the squad, but I have spoken to the club and I hope the club listens to me.

"Every club could say, 'Yeah, I want to win trophies', but then you have to understand very well what is your point, where you are and then the path that you have to follow to try to be competitive and win."

Chelsea – Mason Mount

Mount is Chelsea's top goalscorer this season with seven goals in 20 appearances. Tuchel will be hoping the Blues academy product can down Spurs once more.

Tottenham – Harry Kane

Kane has scored 39 goals in 65 Premier League London derby matches, second only to Thierry Henry (43) in the history of the competition. However, he's netted just once in his last seven such league games, doing so against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

- Tottenham have failed to score in each of their last five meetings with Chelsea in all competitions, with their goalless run against the Blues currently standing at 457 minutes since Erik Lamela's strike in September 2020. They've never gone six games without a goal against an opponent in their history.

- Chelsea have earned 498 points from their 271 Premier League London derby matches, and victory here would see them become the first side to reach 500 points in the history of the competition.

- Tottenham have won their last two Premier League London derbies, having lost five in a row before this. They last had a longer winning run in such games between February and November 2018 (7).

- Chelsea have drawn each of their last three Premier League home games – they've not gone four without a win at Stamford Bridge in the competition since a run of five under Guus Hiddink between March and May 2016.

- No manager to have previously taken charge of Chelsea in the Premier League has won against the Blues at Stamford Bridge in the competition (D7 L13). Conte will be the eighth different manager to try, with each of the last three losing on their first attempt (Mourinho, Benítez, Ancelotti).
