Hull City Tigers vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Minute Commentary
90' FULL TIME REPORT
Hull and Spurs played out a 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium this afternoon as Paulinho's second-half finish cancelled out Shane Long's 13th-minute opener. Hull were on top for the first 15 minutes but after the goal Spurs got into their stride and should really have levelled on several occasions. Aaron Lennon couldn't find the target during a goalmouth scramble. Roberto Soldado wasted a good opportunity when he fired a volley high and wide from close range and then took a heavy touch to waste a chance when in a good position in the box. The second half saw Spurs on the front foot and they created several chances but it took them until the 62nd minute to get back on level terms. Nabil Bentaleb's long-range shot was deflected into the path of the Brazilian, who made no mistake in the area. Roberto Soldado should've scored from six yards out moments earlier though. Full time and it's Hull 1-1 Spurs.
90' FULL TIME
The game is over and it finishes 1-1 here in Hull.
90' THREE MINUTES
Both sides have three minutes to find a winner, and if either side are going to, it looks as though it's going to be the hosts. Though Spurs feel they should have a penalty, they only get a corner.
87' GOLDEN CHANCE
Hull counter quickly and Shane Long finds himself in the Spurs box, surrounded by bodies. He gets a shot off, but he can only find Hugo Lloris, who parries away.
83' DOESN'T COUNT
Hull have the ball in the net but it won't count as a foul had been commited. The ball was rolled across to Shane Long who tapped in but he was accused of a push when going for the ball. Still 1-1 here.
79' CAN'T CONNECT
Substitute George Boyd sends the ball into the box but he puts a little too much power on it, and it bounces harmlessly out for a goal kick for the visitors.
75' UPPING THE PRESSURE
Spurs are piling the pressure on now and are on top. They win a corner which is taken by Christian Eriksen. It comes out to youngster Nabil Bentaleb, and he fires a shot at goal, but it doesn't trouble the hosts.
72' COMES TO NOTHING
A cross from Spurs old boy Tom Huddlestone is harmless enough and Jan Vertonghen holds off Shane Long and allows the ball to go out for a goal kick.
70' SUBS
Robert Koren and George Boyd are on the pitch as Steve Bruce's team try to find a winner. Going off in their places are Ahmed Elmohamady and Robbie Brady.
67' VITAL CHALLENGE
Curtis Davies puts in a crucial block to stop Emmanuel Adebayor as he marches into the box and goes to cross to Roberto Soldado, who was waiting to tap in.
65' SAVED
Hull come close to regaining their lead as Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long link up. Long controls a downfield pass well, and lofts a cross over to the far post. Jelavic slides in and sends a shot towards the bottom corner, but Hugo Lloris saves with his feet.
62' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Spurs equalise and it's PAULINHO who grabs the leveller on his return to the team. A long shot was blocked and the loose ball fell to the Braziian, who made no mistake from inside the box.
60' STUDS SHOWING
David Meyler goes in for a 50/50 ball with Nabil Bentaleb and shows his studs. He's given a talking to by the ref but isn't shown a card.
58' BLOCKED SHOT
Spurs have a free kick 25 yards out and Kyle Walker puts the ball down. He smashes it goalwards but fails to beat the wall.
57' WHAT A SAVE
Roberto Soldado will wonder what he'll have to do to score again from open play this season. Paulinho's shot is deflected into the path of the Spaniard and from six yards, his volley is saved brilliantly by Steve Harper.
54' STRAIGHT INTO THE HANDS
Christian Eriksen attempts to get his side back on level terms with Hull but his shot lacks pace or power, and is easy for Steve Harper to pick up.
50' HULL ON TOP
Hull are still the side in the ascendency. They haven't created much in terms of chances but are holding onto the ball well and making Spurs work. The North London side don't look to have recovered from the 5-1 drubbing in midweek.
47' HEADED AWAY
Hull get a free kick on the right side of the field, in line with the penalty box. It's headed away easily. The ball is played back over to Nikica Jelavic, who thinks he's onside and fires over. The flag goes up, albeit a little late.
46' SECOND HALF
The final 45 minutes are underway here at the KC and both sides are as they were in the first half.
45' HALF TIME REPORT
Hull went into the break a goal to the good thanks to Shane Long's 13th-minute opener. The Irish forward raced onto a flicked ball and finished expertly past Hugo Lloris for his first goal in Hull colours. Half time and it's 0-0. Stay tuned for the second half.
45' HALF TIME
Anthony Taylor blows his whistle and it's half time.
44' STRONG
Hull look to try and score from crosses, but as Shane Long sends an inswinging ball into the box, Jan Vertonghen gets up to head away from Nikica Jelavic. There's a lot of height with Spurs' two centre-backs and crosses may not be the best form of attack.
41' OVERRUN
Roberto Soldado is slid in by Christian Eriksen but he takes a heavy touch and instead of shooting, he has to cross the ball. It is blocked by Paul McShane and the corner comes to nothing.
38' JUST WIDE
Nikica Jelavic comes so close to doubling his side's lead with a free kick. He curls it over the wall and just past the left post. That would have been a cracking second goal.
34' WIDE
Roberto Soldado is still struggling to find goals and sends a volley from three yards way over the crossbar and into row Z. He was at an acute angle and it was asking a lot to find the net from there.
32' DOWN INJURED
Ahmed Elmohamady goes down and looks to be in a bit of discomfort, but after a few minutes of treatment, he's back on his feet and play continues.
30' GOOD DEFENDING
Liam Rosenior makes a vital clearance from a Spurs cross to concede a corner. Emmanuel Adebayor was lurking right behind him and with the form he's in, you'd put your life on him finishing from close range. Jan Vertonghen gets his head to the resulting corner, but directs it wide.
28' CORNER
It's Spurs' turn to attack from a corner now. Christian Eriksen sends in a delicious ball but no one is there to make contact with it and it drifts out of play. It's not been the most entertaining of games here so far.
25' GOALMOUTH SCRAMBLE
The ball is bobbling about in the box and Aaron Lennon gets off a couple of shots in a crowded penalty area. Both of them are blocked though, and the ball is then subsequently cleared from danger.
23' OFFSIDE
Shane Long thinks he's through on goal again but the linesman is quick to raise his flag. Long contests the decision but that only earns him a talking to from referee Anthony Taylor.
20' WATCHING ON
Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane is watching on from the stands. He'll be impressed with that goal from Shane Long.
17' HALF-CHANCE
Spurs pass their way into Hull's penalty area and the ball is slid into the path of Paulinho. The Brazilian's man has stayed with him and he fails to get off a strong shot, allowing Steve Harper to come and pick up possession.
13' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Hull have the lead and it's SHANE LONG who bags his first goal for his new club. The chance came from a mistake by Danny Rose. The left-back went into a challenge with his head and knocked the ball on for Long, who accelerated away and finished well beyond Lloris.
12' EXCELLENT SAVE
Right up the other end Emmanuel Adebayor has a shot on goal and forces Steve Harper into a good save to concede a corner. It comes to nothing and moments later Paulinho fires way over.
10' ROOF OF THE NET
Hull come close to opening the scoring through Nikica Jelavic. A free kick is sent into the box and the Croatian volleys it into the ground and it lands on the top of the net. Close for the Tigers.
7' HULL ON TOP
Hull have kept the ball well in these opening minutes and are looking the better team. They're stringing passes together well and aren't giving Spurs a moment to rest.
4' EARLY CORNER
The hosts get an early set-piece which Robbie Brady goes over to take. His back-post delivery can't quite find Curtis Davies, and goes out for a throw-in for Spurs.
1' UP AND RUNNING
The new striking partnership of Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long get us underway here. Hull are in their usual amber and black stripes while Spurs are in a lovely turquoise strip.
0' SPURS TEAM NEWS

0' PREVIEW
Hull host Tottenham at the KC Stadium this afternoon as they look to try and edge further away from the drop zone. The hosts go into the game in terrible form, having lost every single league game in January, failing to score a single goal. This came off the back of a superb 6-0 win over Fulham in the final game of 2013. Spurs will be glad to see the back of Man City this season, after conceding 11 goals over two fixtures. That result aside, the North London have been in great form in recent weeks, and have rarely dropped points since Tim Sherwood took over from Andre Villas-Boas.
0' GOALS DRYING UP
With the Tigers goalless in the league in 2014 so far, Steve Bruce acted fast and splashed out to bring in strikers Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long, while forwards Nick Proschwitz and Aaron McClean left to join Barnsley and Bradford respectively. Their top scorer so far is Robbie Brady. The skilful Irish winger has bagged on just three occasions this term, with the last being at the end of September. With 22 goals from 23 games this season, they're averaging just 0.96 goals a game and have had 14 different scorers this season.
0' REJUVENATED
For Spurs, the confidence in their play that was ever-present under Harry Redknapp seems to be back under Tim Sherwood. Had the season started when Sherwood took over, Spurs would be just five points off the title, and only a point behind arch rivals Arsenal. It's a welcome change from the poor defensive football Spurs were producing under Andre Villas-Boas not so long ago. They also boast a 100 per cent record away from home under Sherwood, and are only second behind Man City.
0' KEY PLAYERS
It's been pretty hard to pinpoint players who have stood out for Hull recently, as not many have. If Nikica Jelavic can rediscover the form he was in when he first came to England with Everton then he'll prove a strong asset to the club and won't be easy for any defence to contain. Tom Huddlestone's impressive performances this season have put him in contention for a call-up to the World Cup. For Spurs, Christian Eriksen has looked a totally different player to the one under AVB and has rocked up with three goals in six games. He previously hadn't scored for in the league. Emmanuel Adebayor is also in a rich vein of form for Spurs and is one to watch, having scored five in seven.
0' HEAD-TO-HEAD
The last time these two met in the league back in October, Spurs ran out 1-0 winners courtesy of a late penalty from Roberto Soldado. That was the first time Spurs had beaten Hull at White Hart Lane in the Premier League. Three days after that they knocked Hull out of the League Cup on penalties. Out of the 11 games in all competitions at the KC Stadium, Spurs have won just three. Their last visit saw a 5-1 win, when Jermain Defoe netted a hat-trick.
0' REFEREE
Anthony Taylor is in charge of this fixture. The Manchester-based official is refereeing his 20th game of the season tomorrow. He's overseen one Hull and one Spurs game so far this season – he oversaw Hull's 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace and Spurs' 1-1 home draw with West Brom on Boxing Day. From the 19 games so far, he has issued 64 yellow cards and sent off just two players.
