Manchester City vs. Norwich City
Minute Commentary
90' FT: MAN CITY 7 NORWICH 0
Manchester City make it five wins out of five at home and move within a point of Chelsea, who were the bookmakers' favourites for the title before their defeat at Newcastle earlier in the day. It was one-way traffic from the moment City took a 16th-minute lead through a freak own goal by Bradley Johnson, who saw the ball ricochet over his helpless goalkeeper following Sergio Aguero's initial effort. That was the first of three City goals in nine minutes, David Silva adding a classy second and Matija Nastasic then heading home his first goal for the club from a corner. Norwich heads were already down when Alvaro Negredo added a fourth nine minutes before the break with Aguero supplying his third assist of the half. The fifth was the pick of the goals, Yaya Toure scoring on the hour with a sublime direct free-kick from 20 yards after substitute Edin Dzeko had been fouled. Aguero finally found the net himself with 71 minutes gone, profiting from a poor defensive clearance from Sebastien Bassong. There was still time for Dzeko to add a seventh four minutes from time with an impressive turn and shot. Manager Manuel Pellegrini chose Costel Pantimilon in place of Joe Hart in goal, but the Romanian was largely unemployed, making one save from a long-range effort from Anthony Pilkington.
90' ZABALETA BLASTS OVER
Aguero surges into the box and finds Zabaleta, whose shot balloons high into the stands.
89' UNHAPPY MEMORIES
This is the first time Norwich have conceded seven since they were thrashed at home by Colchester at the beginning of the 2009-10 season.
87' GOAL: MAN CITY 7 NORWICH 0
Edin Dzeko collects the ball with his back to goal and turns before shooting beyond Ruddy. It's a magnificent seven for the home side.
84' RUDDY TO THE RESCUE
The set-piece hits the wall and from the rebound Martin Demichelis is denied by another good stop by Ruddy.
83' NORWICH BOOKING
Turner hauls down Aguero on the edge of the area and is shown the yellow card. This is another good chance for Toure for a second goal from the free-kick.
82' HEADING INTO FOURTH
City will jump to fourth providing Southampton are unable to find a winning goal at Stoke.
80' SUPERB SAVE FROM RUDDY
Aguero is allowed to collect a long ball and is only denied by a superb save from Ruddy. That should have been seven.
78' GOALS HAVE DRIED UP
Only 12 minutes to go, so City look unlikely now to match the record 9-0 Premier League victory achieved by rivals Manchester United back in 1995.
74' CITY SUBSTITUTION
City make their final switch, David Silva making way for Jesus Navas.
73' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Silva escaped the attentions of Pilkington down the left. Bassong made a lazy attempt to clear the cross and it fell to Aguero, who gratefully accepted the gift.
71' GOAL: MAN CITY 6 NORWICH 0
Sergio Aguero nets a sixth for Manchester City.
71' CITY SUBSTITUTION
Here's that City switch. It is Milner for Samir Nasri.
69' TIME FOR A CHANGE
City are getting ready to bring on James Milner. Will David Silva get a breather before the upcoming Champions League match?
67' AGUERO EFFORT BLOCKED
City go looking for more, but Aguero's shot is blocked by a defender. The home side are still able to launch wave after wave of attacks while not really having to break sweat.
64' WIDE FROM AGUERO
Aguero shoots just wide from 25 yards, but Ruddy had that one covered.
63' MURPHY PLUGGING AWAY
Murphy is playing without fear here. The teenager shoots wide from 25 yards, but at least he is not afraid to try his luck.
61' GOAL: MAN CITY 5 NORWICH 0
Dzeko is fouled by Johnson just outside the box and presents Yaya Youre with a shooting chance. The Ivorian's free-kick nestles in the top corner. Top class goal.
57' RUDDY PREVENTS A FIFTH
City threaten again. Nasri's low left-foot shot is well saved by Ruddy and the angle is too tight for Aguero, who chips into the side-netting.
55' GOOD CHANCE WASTED
Norwich create a clear-cut opening. Johnson plays the ball in for Elmander, who makes a mess of a great chance, shooting over the crossbar with only the goalkeeper to beat.
53' DZEKO DENIED
Martin's clearance bounces off Aguero into the path of Dzeko, but the effort from the City substitute is blocked by Bassong.
52' SLOW STARTERS
Another first-half blank means Norwich have netted just one goal in the first 45 minutes of matches, the lowest return in the Premier League.
50' DANGEROUS TIME FOR CANARIES
Norwich beware. Manchester City have scored seven times in the first 15 minutes of the second half, that's more than any other team has managed this season in any 15-minute period. Manuel Pellegrini's half-time team-talks must be something special.
49' MUST DO BETTER
Norwich are not going to win this game, but the way they react in the next 45 minutes could have a significant bearing on the managerial future of Chris Hughton at Carrow Road.
48' CITY BOOKING
Murphy makes an instant impact, drawing Zabaleta into a foul that earns the City full-back a booking.
47' CHANGES FOR BOTH SIDES
Norwich have made a double switch, with Johan Elmander and Josh Murphy taking the place of Hooper and Whittaker. City replace Negredo with Edin Dzeko. Murphy is an 18-year-old trainee with two Capital One Cup appearances to his name.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
Norwich get the second half under way.
45' HT: MAN CITY 4 NORWICH 0
Manchester City have the points in the bag already thanks to a three-goal blast in nine minutes. The first on 16 minutes was credited as an own goal to the unlucky Bradley Johnson, who saw a Sergio Aguero effort ricochet around in the area before hitting him last and looping over the prone body of John Ruddy. David Silva netted the second, which came from a swift counter-attack with Aguero playing a crucial role in the build-up. There was an element of luck about the third as well, as Matija Nastasic's headed effort went in off Russell Martin. The goal, though, went down as the first of his City career for the Serbia defender. Alvaro Negredo netted a fourth nine minutes from the interval thanks to a slick City passing move involving Yaya Toure and Aguero that carved a demoralised Norwich defence apart.
45' AGUERO LOOKS TO CONTINUE RUN
Sergio Aguero has netted in four straight Premier League matches, but once managed to net in seven straight for Atletico Madrid in La Liga between March and April 2011. He's yet to find the target today but has three assists by my reckoning.
42' NO RESPITE FOR NORWICH
Negredo shrugs off the attentions of Bassong and gets in a shot that is well saved by Ruddy.
40' PANTILIMON MAKES A SAVE
Norwich have their first shot on target, but Pilkington's effort is palmed behind by Pantilimon.
38' MORE ON THAT GOAL
It's so easy for the home side. Yaya Toure chipped a delightful pass for Aguero, who unselfishly squared for Negredo and he smashed a shot into the top corner from close range.
36' GOAL: MAN CITY 4 NORWICH 0
Alvaro Negredo nets a fourth for City.
35' MISTAKE BY RUDDY UNPUNISHED
A City corner almost leads to a fourth. Ruddy spills the set-piece and Aguero is denied thanks to a fine block by Martin.
33' LEAKING GOALS
Since the start of last season Norwich have been outscored 45-18 in their 23 away matches. That's even before the three they conceded today.
30' ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
The biggest win in the Premier League currently is Manchester United's 9-0 hammering of Ipswich Town in March 1995.
28' THREE IN NINE MINUTES
Three goals in nine minutes for the home side. Norwich would happily go home now if you gave them the opportunity.
26' MORE ON THAT GOAL
It's being credited as Nastasic's goal, even though it took a big nick off his marker Russell Martin's head. Samir Nasri gets the assist for supplying the corner.
25' GOAL: MAN CITY 3 NORWICH 0
Matija Nastasic heads a third for City, aided by a deflection.
24' LOOKING FOR A THIRD
Nasri crosses from the right and Aguero leaves his feet to try an acrobatic volley. The Argentine, though, makes no contact with the ball.
21' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Norwich are hit on the break. They give the ball away high up the field and a pass forward is superbly held up by Aguero. He finds Silva, whose well-struck shot is too hot for Ruddy.
20' GOAL: MAN CITY 2 NORWICH 0
David Silva doubles City's lead.
19' SCORING RUN CONTINUES
City have now scored at least once in 54 straight home Premier League matches dating back to a scoreless draw with Birmingham City in November 2010, the longest active streak in the top flight.
16' GOAL: MAN CITY 1 NORWICH 0
City are in front. An initial effort is blocked, but Sergio Aguero's follow-up hits two Norwich defenders and loops in over Ruddy. It is being credited as a Bradley Johnson own goal. Whoever scored it, it was a real fluke.
15' NASRI JUST WIDE
City go close. Silva slips in Nasri whose shot is not too far wide of goal. That attack stemmed from Johnson giving the ball away.
14' PINNING HOPES ON HOWSON
Jonny Howson, who scored the winner on this ground last season, is the only Norwich player to score a league goal away from home so far in this campaign.
11' FIRING BLANKS
Norwich took 31 shots and failed to score in a draw with Cardiff on Saturday. That's the most attempts without a goal in a Premier League match since Sunderland failed to score with 33 shots in the 2-0 defeat at Blackpool in December 2010.
8' DAZZLING FOOTWORK FROM SILVA
Silva wriggles away from three Norwich defenders and fires across the face of goal, a disappointing final ball after the good work that had preceded it.
7' GOALS ON THE CARDS
We should get an open game here. None of the last six Premier League meetings have ended with a clean sheet for either side and there have been 25 goals in the last four meetings, City netting 17 of them.
6' WELL WIDE FROM HOWSON
Howson fancies his chances from long range against a rookie Premier League goalkeeper, but his scuffed shot hits Pilkington and goes well wide of the target.
4' HOW THEY LINE UP
Martin Olsson is playing at left-back for Norwich, Anthony Pilkington is on the left of midfield and Steven Whittaker is on the opposite flank for the visitors.
2' EARLY CITY CORNER
City are on the attack straight away and Zabaleta's cross is cut out at the expense of a corner. Martin Demichelis heads wide from the set-piece by Nasri.
1' HERE WE GO
City kick off, attacking the goal to our right.
0' TEAM NEWS - HART DROPPED
City have dropped goalkeeper Joe Hart and in comes Costel Pantilimon. Alvaro Negredo also gets a start, coming in for Javi Garcia. Norwich also make two changes, Steven Whittaker and Bradley Johnson coming in for the injured Alex Tettey and Robert Snodgrass.

0' PREVIEW
Norwich venture north west to Manchester for the second time in five days as they take on Manchester City in the Premier League. Chris Hughton's side will be hoping to fare better than in the League Cup, where they were trounced 4-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday by City's neighbours United. Norwich's draw last weekend was not enough to lift them out of the relegation zone, though they can take some heart from the fact that they were one of only two sides to win at the Etihad Stadium in the league last season, their win proving to be the last game in charge for Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. Canaries boss Chris Hughton cannot realistically hope for a repeat this time around and will be targeting their next four home matches - against West Ham, Crystal Palace, Swansea and Fulham - as games from which they must take points. City have got enough problems of their own at present. Another high-profile defensive blunder featuring Joe Hart saw them surrender a last-minute winner to Chelsea last weekend and manager Manuel Pellegrini has a big decision to make in goal, especially as Hart's deputy Costel Pantilimon kept a clean sheet in the extra-time midweek League Cup win at Newcastle. Today's game kicks off at 1500GMT, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
City striker Sergio Aguero might not have grabbed the headlines he has deserved in recent weeks due to his club's own defensive failings and the potent play of Liverpool duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, but the fact remains he lies second in the race for the Premier League golden boot with seven goals already. The Argentine was superb in a losing effort at Chelsea last week and after a slightly slow start to the season has rediscovered his best form, finding the target in six of his last seven games in all competitions and tallying nine goals over that timeframe.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
Manchester City have the better head-to-head record in league meetings between the sides with 27 wins to nine by Norwich and 18 games being drawn. In Manchester, City have 18 wins to three by Norwich, with a further six meetings ending up all square. The corresponding match last season took place on the final Sunday of the season on May 19 and Norwich won it 3-2, Anthony Pilkington (26 mins) and Grant Holt (54) twice putting them in front before being quickly pegged back by goals from Jack Rodwell (29 and 59). The home side, though, had no answer to the 65th-minute strike from Jonny Howson that proved to be the winner. The earlier meeting at Carrow Road finished 4-3 to Manchester City despite the visitors having Samir Nasri sent off just before half-time. Edin Dzeko scored twice in the opening four minutes, but the decisive goal turned out to be an own goal from Norwich goalkeeper Mark Bunn.
0' FORM GUIDE
Manchester City start the day in seventh place with 16 points from nine games, six adrift of leaders Arsenal. Wins against Everton and West Ham had erased the memory of a defeat at struggling Aston Villa, but all the good work was undone by that setback at Chelsea on Sunday. Norwich are in the relegation places, lying 18th with eight points, below Stoke City only on goal difference. The Canaries drew at Cardiff City last time out, but are winless in three and have a single victory at Stoke City to show from their last six outings. Manchester City are the highest scorers at home in the Premier League, with 13 goals and a perfect four wins from four matches in front of their own fans.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
The rumblings from Manchester suggest that Joe Hart could well pay the price for one mistake too many and may lose his place in goal to Costel Pantilimon, who would be making his first appearance in the Premier League. Vincent Kompany (thigh), Stevan Jovetic (calf) and Javi Garcia (hamstring) are all ruled out. Norwich were dealt a blow this week by the news that Alexander Tettey will miss several weeks after damaging knee ligaments. Striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel (foot) is also out and Robert Snodgrass (concussion) and Nathan Redmond (hip) will be assessed before kick-off.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Phil Dowd, who has been a member of the elite panel of Premier League referees since 2001. The man from Stoke-on-Trent tops the yellow card charts at this early stage of the season, with 27 cautions in nine games, which still equates to a moderate three-per-game average. Dowd has yet to dismiss anyone in the Premier League this season. He sent off four players in 2012-13, including Villa's Joe Bennett in the 1-1 draw with Norwich at Villa Park. His assistants today are Darren England and Richard West, while Stephen Martin is the fourth official.
